What I actually paid
- Labeeb: the city is much bigger than the tourist map implies. Roma, Condesa, the historic center, and Coyoacan all feel walkable in isolation but they're real distances apart, budget actual transit time between them.
How to spend less
- Eat at market comedores (Mercado Roma, Mercado Medellin) instead of restaurants with the same food at half the price
- Buy the metro smart card once and keep topping it up rather than paying cash fares where accepted
- Skip the Frida Kahlo house line by buying the timed ticket online days ahead, it's the same price and saves an hour
- Group up for a shared Teotihuacan tour instead of a private taxi, it's a long round trip to pay for alone
