How Much Does Lagos Cost per Day

A full breakdown of Lagos prices: daily budgets by tier, every itemised cost from the guide, and where the money actually goes.

The short answer

Budget travellers in Lagos spend around EUR 50 a day. Mid-range travel runs closer to EUR 105, and a splurge day lands around EUR 260. Figures are per person per day in EUR, roughly 45-55 CAD / 30-40 USD at budget tier up to 300 CAD / 210 USD at splurge, using an approximate rate of EUR 1 = CAD 1.60 / USD 1.16. High season (July-August) accommodation can run 1.5-2x the shoulder-season figures below for an identical room.

Breakfast at a cafe, lunch from the Mercado Municipal or a side-street tabasco, dinner with grilled fish, roughly EUR 30 total across the day. A bus or taxi to Ponta da Piedade and back, about EUR 8-10. One paid activity, a short grotto boat tour around EUR 15. The day lands close to EUR 105 per person, about 168 CAD or 122 USD at the rate above.

What I actually paid

  • Ponta da Piedade earns the photographs. Walking the clifftop path at the end of the day, after the tour boats have mostly stopped running, the light on that limestone is better than anything a boat trip gets you, and it costs nothing. I'd still do a short boat or kayak trip once, just to see the grottoes from inside, but the free clifftop walk is the part I'd repeat.

How to spend less

  • Eat at the Mercado Municipal or a side-street tasca instead of the marina-front restaurants, the same fish costs noticeably less a block or two back.
  • Take the direct grotto tour from the fishermen at the base of the Ponta da Piedade steps rather than the harbour-departure boats, it is shorter but a fraction of the price.
  • Travel outside July-August: rooms in Lagos can drop by a third to half in June or September for comparable comfort, with warm sea both months.
  • Rent a car for a single western Algarve day rather than booking every stop through a tour operator; splitting the cost across a group beats per-person tour pricing for Sagres and Cabo de São Vicente.
  • Base yourself near the train station on the east bank instead of inside the old town walls for cheaper rooms a short walk from the centre.
