How to spend less
- The 1-Day Streetcar Pass (700 yen) or combined streetcar-and-ferry pass (1,000 yen) beats paying per ride if you're moving around more than three times.
- Peace Memorial Museum admission is only 200 yen, it's already the cheapest major thing you'll do here, no need to skip it to save money.
- Okonomimura stalls run a full okonomiyaki meal for 1,000-1,500 yen, cheaper than a sit-down izakaya dinner with the same food quality.
- Base yourself in Hiroshima city and day-trip to Miyajima rather than staying overnight on the island, island lodging (mostly ryokan) runs well above city hotel rates.
