How to spend less

  • Eat where locals eat: Burns Road and Boat Basin street food runs a fraction of what a hotel restaurant charges for the same biryani or BBQ
  • Ride-hailing apps are cheaper and more transparent than flagging a taxi and negotiating
  • Clifton Beach itself is free; the paid rides (camel, horse, buggy) are optional extras, not required for a beach evening
  • Empress Market and Saddar's general markets are the place for souvenirs and textiles at local prices, not hotel gift shops
