What I actually paid
- Tapas here are not the free bar snack you get further south in Spain. You order them off a menu and pay per plate, and if you walk in expecting a free dish with your drink you'll be confused by the bill.
How to spend less
- Menu del dia lunch specials (starter, main, drink, often dessert) run EUR 12-18 at neighborhood restaurants versus EUR 20+ a la carte at dinner for similar food
- The Gothic Quarter, El Born, Barceloneta beach, and most of Park Guell outside the Monumental Zone cost nothing to visit
- Book Sagrada Familia and Park Guell tickets weeks ahead rather than through a resale site, which marks up the same timed slot
- T-Casual metro passes are shareable, buy one for two people and tap it twice per ride instead of buying two single tickets
