October and November for cool, dry weather and autumn colour at Osaka Castle and Minoo. Late March into mid-April for cherry blossoms, but book hotels three months out and expect crowds. Avoid the June-July rainy season and August, which is 35C and swamp-humid. December is quiet and cheap.
